Melissa Carroll's oil portraits move beyond a mere physical representation of a person.  For this reason she chooses to paint people who are familiar to her, creating an emotional personal intimacy.  Her goal is to extend the subject's personality and character while simultaneously expressing an emotional intensity to the viewer.  Her sole focus and deliberate attention is set on the overwhelming existence and presence of one person, captured in one moment.

 

Melissa life was cut short on March 31, 2014 after a three year battle with Ewing Sarcoma.
